Since going back on The Pill my skin has done a complete 180 and is now leans more towards the dry category. To be honest I find it easier to manage, it’s much easier to add moisture than to remove it and I can get away with wearing dewy or cream based products without it sliding off my grease ball face. I also suffer with eczema in some areas so I try to minimise the nasties and stick with relatively natural or low irritant products.
After ditching my old skincare that was sucking the moisture out of my soul I updated my routine with the products below.
This stuff has been incredible. It contains natural ingredients like goats milk (obviously), Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Aloe Vera and Pro-vitamin E which are so nourishing and fab for eczema sufferers. It glides on like silk and makes my face feel as smooth as a baby’s bum. It works extremely well to remove all of my makeup at the end of the day which is one of the main things I look for in a cleanser.
My lovely and incredibly stylish friend Marnie (@wanderlust_coconut) bought this Disney edition cleansing oil back from her Japanese travels. Asian skincare is meant to me some of the best on the market and it’s safe to say this will now always be a staple in my beauty routine. I don’t feel the need to use it every night but for the weekends when I wear more makeup I like to use this as a pre-cleanse to make sure every trace is removed. It removes more stubborn products like waterproof mascara, liquid lipsticks and eyelash glue residue is a swift swipe.
While I was down south in Margaret River a couple of months ago I had the best massage I’ve had in a long time. It was so reasonably priced and the salon was so cute. If I could have a massage every day for the rest of my life I would be so set. While I was there I picked up this mineral based exfoliator to help revive my skin texture. As the exfoliants (apricot & walnut kernel) can be quite harsh I minimise the use of this to twice a week which is plenty to remove the dead skin cells and promote circulation.
LuLuLun – Sheet Mask
This is another one of the goodies Marnie bought back from Japan for me. You are supposed to do a mask every night for the week but I’ve just been doing one every now and again when I feel like I need extra hydration. My face has honestly never felt so smooth afterwards, I had never tried a sheet mask before but this has now become my favourite type. HOORAY for new things! This is a product that you 100% need to try, it’s life changing. There are lots of different types within the LuLuLun range all aimed at promoting specific things whether it be hydration, brightening, soothing etc… it’s my mission to try them all.
This one is another great purchase from Arrows Life Margaret River. I like to use this mask before a night out or special event as it’s not too harsh. It softens and restores your skin texture so makeup apply’s like a dream. There are no fillers in this little tub, just pink clay and Australian minerals. It also dry’s really fast so you don’t have to walk around with a pink face for too long.
This type of mask is better for oily/ acne prone skin as it works to draws out impurities. I tend to only use it as a spot treatment when I have a breakout or on my chin area which gets congested quite easily. As soon as I feel a spot coming on I apply it to the area and then wash it off after 5-10 mins. Depending on the pimple I sometimes use it a couple of nights in a row if necessary. I find it really does help to suck out all the yuckies and shorten the life span of a blemish.
I’ve been using pure Argan Oil after hearing about all the conditioning benefits it has on the skin. It’s not a heavy product so I use it morning or night and sometimes mix it with my foundation for that dewy finish. It double’s up as a hair treatment too and I’ve even used it on my lips when they are really dry before bed. It’s such a great beauty staple to have on hand.
I’ve only been using this moisturiser for the last couple of weeks but because of its thickness I prefer to use it as a night cream. I love the fact that its natural and chemical free so I feel confident putting it on my face and so far it feels like it’s doing it’s job. I personally find it a tad too thick and almost greasy to wear under makeup especially in summer but for the night-time I feel nice and hydrated and my skin feels supple when I wake up.
Having dry skin and being a frequent fake tanner a body scrub is a necessary part of my regimen. I try to exfoliate 1-2 times a week when I don’t have tan on to ensure my skin is always fully prepped. I’ve posted a review on the Naked Body Co scrubs here which goes into much more detail about the product but in short highly recommend these.
As much as I love fragrance I do find it can be irritating on my skin at times, especially if I’m leaving it on for a long period. I’ve been trying out this hypoallergenic moisturiser as part of my routine for the last couple of weeks and so far my eczema hasn’t been irritated one bit. Even after applying it immediately after shaving my legs. I usually moisturise before I hop into bed so I can’t stand that thick slimy feeling that makes the covers stick to your legs, thankfully this moistuiser absorbs into the skin really fast so there is none of that.
This product was part of the Bloggers United goody bag a couple of weeks ago. Since then I’ve been using it for all sorts but have found it particularly helpful to sooth my irritated nose. My hay fever is already out of control so I’ve been blowing my nose almost constantly, I look like Rudolph most days. The consistency is really thick so it stay’s put for ages, so ideal for extreme dryness. It has so many uses too so it’s a good one for the handbag.
I’m still on the hunt for an amazing eye cream. I’ve tried a few but I don’t feel like they are game changers so If you have any suggestions it will be greatly appreciated.
